Happy St. Patrick's Day.......a wee bit late!

I haven't been keeping up with posting since January.  My camera died and I have been so busy that I neglected the blog.  Then St. Patrick's Day rolled around.  It is one of my favorite times at school.  The children make leprechaun traps and we "set" them the day before St. Patrick's Day in hopes of catching a leprechaun and getting his pot of gold.  I was sick over the holiday and missed all the fun but Mrs. B saved the day by making pictures of all the traps and their creators.  So here is a Smilebox of smiling children and sneaky leprechaun traps.

Sorry to say, even though the traps were quite clever, no one caught a leprechaun!

Happy 100th Day

On Friday, we celebrated the 100th day of Kindergarten with stories, special math activities, songs and a 100 piece snack.  The children dressed as their 100 year old selves.  Here are few images from that day!

Christmas in January

Since I have had family issues going on since Christmas, I never got around to posting the pictures from our Pajama Day and Christmas party.  So here we are relaxing and getting ready for the holidays.
We had a great time that day.  Parents provided us with wonderful refreshments.

It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas

Only one more week until Winter Break.  We have been busy with reindeer, candy canes, gingerbread, big Santas and lots more preparing for the holidays.  We started the month off by reading and learning about reindeer.  The children made factual books with reindeer faces for the covers and also made deer to decorate our hallway.  We did a guided drawing of a reindeer and used that to decorate the bags that our snowman ornaments will go home in.

Here are some of the big Santas that we have started making.
Our class is participating in a holiday card exchange with other classes from across our country and Canada.  As cards arrive, we post them on our bulletin board.  Here is what our board looks like so far.  We are expecting about 15 more cards.
Next week we will be making our gingerbread houses and TLC elves and having a pajama day.

Merry Christmas

Soldiers, Pilgrims, and Indians

It has been awhile since the last post.  We celebrated Veteran's Day by making TLC soldiers.  They decorated our hallway for the week before Veteran's Day.  Thank you to all the military who keep us safe and guard our freedom!
We are in the process of completing a two week unit on Thanksgiving.  We have spent a lot of time reading and talking about how things are "now" compared to how they were "long ago".  We made TLC Pilgrim portraits and also Indians.  We read many books about the Thanksgiving story and even acted out a sound story of the first Thanksgiving.
The children made paper plate Pilgrims that are sailing on the Mayflower on our bulletin board.
The children wrote and illustrated stories about what they are thankful for.  They also colored and cut out turkeys and made signs for the turkeys to hold recommending that we eat something besides turkey.  Those Chick-fil-A cows have some competition now!
Our class is going to be participating in a Christmas card exchange with 30 other classes from across the USA and Canada.  We had a fun time trying to get a good class photo for our card.  Of course when you take a serious photo, the children always want to make a silly one.  Here is one of our silly ones!
We will let you know how the Christmas card exchange goes.  We will be posting our cards on the bulletin board with a map.  Have a great Thanksgiving!

Spooktacular Fall Fun

We had the best time this week!  After reading Go Away Big Green Monster, we made our own green monsters.  Everyone who has seen them hanging out in the hall has said that they are the best.  The children were amazingly creative.  So here is a slide show of them all.

We read many monster stories but we also read about fall and how the leaves change colors.  The children made cute scarecrows to add to our fall bulletin board display.
With Mrs. B's help, the children also made fall crowns.  Here are the kings and queens of fall.
